Games for Team BuildingGames for team building should start off at a basic and simple level of being fun to take part in. They should encourage a bonding experience and a feeling of all being part of something bigger and something important. This is just the start, however. There is much more to this kind of exercise, but without the feel-good experience at the beginning, the serious stuff can struggle to break through. The second phase of training kicks in when team participants start to understand how their interaction with each other can create a team working environment that is more cohesive with a stronger more positive outlook that is also more efficient and more productive. At this stage the teams members start to engage in the task at hand. They start to display stronger commitment and a better understanding of how to achieve the overall shared goals. The team starts to settle down at this stage with less jostling for position as each member understand his or her place in the team and understands better the tasks they have to perform. The third phase is where the team looks inwards and examines the team dynamics with a view to improving the situation if possible. They might address any problems or challenges they face, either collectively or individually. The overall aim here is to improve the efficiency of the team as a whole. Team planning starts to become a major factor at this stage. It can involve individual planning and group planning for improving and streamlining action with a view to achieving better problem solving. The team also looks at how they have performed previously and they use this information to help fine tune their future performance. The many games for team building that are regularly used by professional providers are varied and can be extremely useful in what they impart. However, in any well-run company away day there is usually something else that takes place, something that is not planned or factored in, but something that can add an invaluable level of insight for each team member. Away days are generally seen as being fun days when company workers more or less have a day off with pay. Of course they have to be at the training centre and take part in the proceedings, but this is usually considered to be easy and stress free. It is mainly because of this situation and because of how the individuals involved react with each other that a strange thing happens. Everyone loosens up to a large degree. The bosses and managers become more like normal human beings. They lose a lot of their unapproachable nature for on an away day they no longer have to be so tightly in control. This makes them more natural and easy going, and usually more likeable too. The ordinary workers loosen up too. They lose their timid shyness and open up more. Each group moves closer to each other in this way, and they each gain a new understanding of each other. This understanding is based on the reality of how each person really is. This is what they can take back to the work place, and this can often be the real value of days spent playing games for team building. |
