Team Building Venues

Getting The Right Venue for Your Team Building Day

Team building venues have sprung up all over the country in recent years. It is a relatively recent phenomenon whose value was not really fully recognised until the latter part of the 20th century. Team building can be applied to sports as well as industry, but it is generally in industry that the term is used.

Team building had its early beginnings in the 1920s, but it wasn't until Lewis founded the Center for Research in Group Dynamics in America in 1945 that serious studies of how teams could affect work performance were properly conducted.

The study of team building continued and by the 1970s it was fairly well understood. However, the real problem lay in the management of companies and not really in the workers themselves. The typical company strategy was one where individuals were rewarded for outstanding performance with little or no consideration of how a team effort may be involved.

Since around 1990 the situation has completely turned around from what it was only a matter of years earlier. The concept of the team-based work place has taken over. No longer is the single worker seen in isolation, he or she is now seen as a vital and essential cog in the larger wheel.

Team building venues (consultancy centres that can help businesses improve the efforts of their work force), have evolved to the point where it has become something of a science in its own right. The venues can be extremely sophisticated and can deliver training programmes that can be worth their weight in gold, so to speak.  Although not all team building companies use their own custom venue, this can be one of the elements that may swing a potential client's decision to go with a particular provider.  There are also many venues that lend themselves to team building activities and a good team building company will be able to get you the right venue even if they don't run their own team building centre themselves.

Companies who offer team building venues need to take several factors into consideration for their clients. Team motivation comes high on the list, as does team communication and team member satisfaction. With these factors in place the coordinator can progress on to strategies designed to help the team become more productive. The consultant or coordinator of a team building company will typically start the process of building a team by doing an assessment of the current situation. They will enquire of the company what they hope to get out of the exercise, what the team needs, and what the average age of the team members is.

This is often where team activities come in. They are designed to help bond the team better. They also allow team members to get to know each other in a more meaningful way. As the team members are no longer interacting in the work place, they start to understand each other on a different level. With their more natural behaviour comes more natural learning and the entire team moves on to a higher level of trust, engagement, and participation.

Getting the right team building venue for a team building away day or exercise can mean the difference between success or failure.  The workers find themselves better valued and they also understand their position in the work place better too. They are often much happier and therefore apply themselves more. The end result is often a company with a happy and productive work force that has greater profits and therefore a much more secure future.
